FINOS NEWS & UPDATES

WELCOME NEW FINOS TEAM MEMBER - JULIA RITTER

We are thrilled to welcome Julia Ritter to the team as our new Community Manager. Julia will be working on providing tactical and strategic leadership for the FINOS Community. She's also fostering collaboration and driving innovation amongst the FINOS developer community by empowering contributors and supporting projects; while working closely with internal stakeholders to help present and position FINOS by supporting our Community in the most impactful ways possible. Stay tuned for more info and email her at julia.ritter@finos.org to introduce yourself.

COMMUNITY SPECIFICATION

At the April FINOS Governing Board meeting, the usage of the Community Specification was approved as the default charter for our future open standard efforts. This set of best practices brings together the best of two worlds, enabling an open standard process to be carried out in familiar open source tooling (like Github) and collaboration primitives (e.g. pull requests). We expect new open standard projects to follow this new approach as well as existing standard projects to consider moving to this in the near future. If you are interested in learning more, you can review the updated Open Standards Governance and, if you are a Member, propose new open standard projects here.

FINOS PROJECTS AND COMMUNITY

FINANCIAL OBJECTS SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP

At its April meeting, the FINOS Governing Board approved uplifting the Financial Objects project into a Special Interest Group (SIG), which will provide a neutral forum for individuals across the financial services industry to collectively identify the need for new, open, financial objects standards as well as modifications to existing ones. The Financial Objects SIG also aims to promote adoption of financial object definitions and models that support common industry workflows and use cases.

Learn more about current and potential use cases at the upcoming Financial Objects SIG kick-off meeting on Tuesday, June 15th at 11am ET / 4pm BST. Have a look at the agenda in GitHub and feel free to propose topics and use cases for discussion.

Send an email to fo+subscribe@finos.org to receive SIG updates.

LEGEND STUDIO PILOT: CASE STUDY

We're excited to announce the publication of the FINOS Legend Studio Case Study, which illustrates the modeling efforts led by Goldman Sachs between April and September 2020. During the Pilot, FINOS members developed extensions to the International Swaps and Derivatives Association's Common Domain Model (ISDA CDM), that have since been incorporated to the canonical version of the ISDA CDM. The Legend Pilot established a model for future collaboration, where:

  • FINOS provides a secure environment for the financial services community to seamlessly develop open source code and standards
  • Financial services organizations contribute use cases and code
  • Standards bodies consolidate industry-wide input in a transparent and efficient way.

Legend was open sourced and contributed into FINOS in late 2020 and is available on GitHub for anyone to use and contribute to.
