Technical Oversight Committee Newsletter

FINOS TOC UPDATE

16 May 2025

Welcome to the May newsletter from the FINOS Technical Oversight Committee!

With an election on the horizon, the Committee is taking time this month to reflect—reviewing our governance documentation and preparing for some upcoming changes to the project lifecycle.

To keep things streamlined, we’ll be skipping project updates in this edition. If you would like to include a project update in a future newsletter, please work with your liaison or reach out to toc@lists.finos.org.

TOC UPDATES

Project Lifecycle Revisions

The TOC is actively working on harmonizing FINOS Labs and FINOS Project Lifecycle work together! This is expected to include some redefinitions and new incentive structures for projects that are promoted through the lifecycle.

We aim to gather feedback this month and finalize the process changes ahead of the June Open Source in Finance Forum. This may have an impact on pending applications for acceptance or promotion, and the TOC will communicate with maintainers accordingly.

Harnessing the Power of LFX v2

In partnership with the TOC, the FINOS team has begun to adopt mature LFX collaboration features such as LFX Meetings, LFX Committees and LFX mailing list management.

With the release of LFX Insights v2 this summer, projects will be invited to adopt key features designed to improve velocity and gain direct access to actionable data and recommendations.

Like with other software options provided to projects, changes will be made with collaboration from maintainers. Reach out to infra@finos.org with any questions!

Nominate the Next TOC Members

The TOC currently has two seats open, scheduled to be filled ahead of next month’s Open Source in Finance Forum.

The election will be split into two phases, as the first seat is filled through a vote of the Governing Board and the second seat is filled through TOC vote.

If you’re interested in helping shepherd the technical community, please review our governance documentation for more information about the role and then nominate yourself or a colleague!

Feel free to contact toc@lists.finos.org if you have any questions.
