Community Trailblazer: Harish Malavade

Harish was recently recognized with the 2025 FINOS Trailblazer Award at the Open Source in Finance Forum (OSFF) in New York. The award celebrates individuals who have made a significant strategic impact in advancing open source across new areas of financial services. Harish’s leadership in the formation and growth of Fluxnova, a FINOS-hosted orchestration and automation platform, is a standout example.

At Fidelity, Harish leads teams building the firm’s Digital Automation Platform, focused on scalable, end-to-end automation that enhances both customer experience and operational agility. When the community edition of Camunda was deprecated, it introduced vendor risk into Fidelity’s enterprise-wide orchestration strategy. Rather than opting for a proprietary solution, Harish spearheaded an effort to explore an open, industry-wide alternative.

From Challenge to Community: The Rise of Fluxnova

That effort led to the creation of Fluxnova, a FINOS strategic project developed in partnership with Fidelity, NatWest Group, Deutsche Bank, and Capital One. The platform was launched at OSFF NYC 2025 as a vendor-neutral, standards-aligned orchestration engine for regulated industries.

As a lead maintainer, Harish has provided both engineering direction and community leadership since the project's inception. His team contributed major components to the initial release and continues to drive innovation, including a new monitoring UI and AI-powered developer tooling planned for future releases.

For Harish, Fluxnova represents more than just a platform:

To me Fluxnova is not just a platform, it is a movement towards open collaboration and process excellence in building the future of orchestration and automation together through open source innovation,” he shared.

Why Fluxnova Matters

With the rise of Agentic AI, the need to orchestrate models, agents, and external systems for seamless decision-making has never been more critical. Fluxnova empowers institutions to seize innovation opportunities today while reducing vendor dependency and operational risk. Built for transparency, auditability, and scale, it offers a future-ready foundation for process automation in financial services.
