Bridging Finance and Open Source: FINOS Partners with Linux Foundation Europe in Milan

Written by Grizz Griswold | 6/13/25 6:44 AM

In the high-stakes world of financial services, the imperative to innovate is matched only by the demand for rigorous compliance. At FINOS, the Fintech Open Source Foundation, we believe open source offers a transformative solution to this challenge—bringing together financial institutions, technology firms, and regulators to collaboratively build trusted, interoperable standards and tools.

This July, we’re proud to take that mission deeper into Europe for the Linux Foundation Europe Roadshow in Milan, taking place on 8 July, 2025!

A Strategic Collaboration: LF Europe Roadshow Comes to Milan

On July 8, 2025, FINOS will serve as the keynote sponsor of the Linux Foundation Europe Roadshow in Milan, a high-impact regional event designed to bring together decision-makers from across open source, finance, and enterprise technology.

Held in partnership with Linux Foundation Europe, this stop on the Roadshow highlights the growing role of open collaboration in regulated industries, with a special focus on financial services. Milan—home to global banks, fintechs, and a rapidly expanding tech scene—provides the ideal backdrop for this conversation.

“FINOS is thrilled to collaborate with Linux Foundation Europe to spotlight Milan as a southern European hub for open innovation in finance,” said Gabriele Columbro, Executive Director of FINOS and General Manager of Linux Foundation Europe. “As the financial industry increasingly embraces open source, it’s critical that we foster regional engagement to align standards, strengthen ecosystems, and accelerate adoption.”

Meet the Keynote Speakers

The agenda is packed with trailblazers advancing Europe’s open source journey. Attendees can expect deep insights on financial infrastructure, digital sovereignty, AI, and cloud compliance from an impressive speaker lineup, including:

  • Jacopo Nardiello, Chief Cloud Native Officer, ReeVo Cloud & Cyber Security

  • Sebastian Raible, Director of EU Government Affairs, APELL

  • Silvana Muscella, Founder & CEO, Trust-IT Services

  • Dov Katz, Managing Director & Distinguished Engineer, Morgan Stanley & Chair Emeritus, FINOS

  • Eddie Knight, OSPO Lead, Sonatype & FINOS TOC Chair

  • Paula Grzegorzewska, Sr. Manager, Strategic Partnerships, Linux Foundation Europe

  • Peter Giese, Director, Open Source Program Office, SAP

  • Simone Salsi, Digital Transformation Advisor, Finance, Salesforce

  • Andrea Gallo, CEO, RISC-V International

  • Gabriele Columbro, Executive Director, FINOS & GM, Linux Foundation Europe

“From policy to cloud to AI, our speakers represent the depth of expertise and collaboration required to build open source solutions for complex, highly regulated environments,” noted Paula Grzegorzewska of Linux Foundation Europe. “This isn’t just a meetup—it’s a blueprint for the future of open source finance in Europe.”

Real-World Financial Use Cases

Alongside keynote talks, the Milan Roadshow will feature sessions spotlighting FINOS projects and European deployments of open source in finance:

These sessions align with top themes from OSFF London 2025, where FINOS-led discussions on FDC3, CDM, and Compliant Financial Infrastructure draw significant interest. We’re now bringing that momentum to Milan—with a European lens.

“What makes Milan special is the intersection of policy, practice, and purpose,” added Jane Gavronsky, COO, FINOS. “This is where global standards meet local solutions—and the community gets to shape both.”

A European Perspective on Open Collaboration

Milan’s role as a financial capital in Southern Europe, coupled with Italy’s broader commitment to digital innovation, makes it a natural host for this regional spotlight. But the goals of the Roadshow extend beyond one city.

Through this event, Linux Foundation Europe and FINOS aim to strengthen cross-border collaboration, highlight open source best practices, and drive adoption of standards-based tooling that works across jurisdictions.

“European leadership in digital sovereignty and open technology is growing stronger,” said Gabriele Columbro, Executive Director of FINOS and General Manager of Linux Foundation Europe. “The Milan Roadshow will help ensure finance is part of that story.”
